His sound is beginning to hit ears. Sometimes with force, and sometimes with intelligent moves. A young artist is becoming a professional. A creative force that is realizing his own potential. His name is Ben Siroka.
His stage name is simple... Siroka, and in 2019 his sound has transformed itself both in his vocal artistry and in his production. He has put out one single this year with '15min' but something is changing for the SupportArt and FAITHxVICTORY Records artist. If you missed the features he has done, you need to do the homework. Adding to hits alongside WAVEON and B-L1FE, on what are both respective album singles, with 'Dumb' and 'Same Guy' with the latter having a music video set to release April 2nd. In his beats, well they are still currently hidden outside of his own music and B-L1FE's single 'Same Guy', but inside the camp to put it simply, he has the sauce. You will be seeing many artists using (Prod. Siroka) in 2019, and it is beyond deserved. He has become a new person while still maintaining all the good from the former self.
We caught up with Siroka to talk about the subject of this blog. We should have mentioned it way before the third paragraph, but his growth is really that astonishing. Also as a person in general. Dude is a cool cat. Plus, his fashion game is top notch... like Kanye level. Yeah, we said it. Anyways, this blog is about his upcoming single 'Run Away' which he also did the production for. Read below our interview with the SA alum who now is part of the leadership team here at SupportArt. We are proud of our baby, being the youngest member on the team.
Q: We have heard a new sound from you via features so far in 2019. Tell us about your second drop of the year 'Run Away'. How does it embody your new sound?
A: "So, 'Run Away' was actually written and recorded all in less than one five or six hour period. I've been in a rough place with my anxiety lately which is why I've been working behind the scenes mostly. Its my first non explicit song in at least a year, and I think its one of my most vulnerable records to date. Im working on opening myself up more to the public, to my friends, to myself. I think this song is the next step in that process and journey."
Q: When did this new sound begin to manifest?
A: "It was like a week or two into 2019. I had a lot of conversations about my music direction with some close friends that lead me to a lot of experimentation with my sound. Im still not 100% sure what my new sound is. Its still a lot of trial and error, but its the sauce."
Q: What advice do you have for those struggling with mental health issues? Something many of our alum deal with daily.
A: "Talk to someone, anyone: your best friend, your co-worker, your boss, your parents, your doctor, a counselor, someone. Let them know what is going on. People do care believe it or not. In my case, a little added bonus, is weed. Its great!"
Q: Where do you see the growth in your music being by the summer of this year?
A: "Oh, holy shit... by the summer nobody is going to recognize the artist I am compared to the artist I was. I've got sound direction. I have so many collabs which are going to turn me into a beast as an artist and as a producer. Im nothing like the Siroka we saw last summer with 'Boys with Feelings'. Not to say Im not that person. Now, its just Im not JUST that person. Its a natural progression."
Q: Explain your plan for releases this year. People want to know what Phase II is and even beyond that. So what is Phase II?
A: "Man, this year is going to be a fun one. Phase II is the nickname Im giving my next "era" of music. Im officially starting my new full album which is really exciting. I think theres gonna be a lot of solo songs which isnt something people see from me a lot. With that being said, I still love collaborating with all my creatives, whether thats other SA members, my homies in the midwest music game, or people I just fuck with in general. WAVEON and I have a joint EP in the works together, and we've teased a few snippets but this is going to be an insane project. There is a certain energy we bring out of each other, and you can totally hear it on our latest collab 'Dumb'. We just work well together. SA has some heat cooking up as well, but I wont reveal too much. Zettabyte and I are also planning on working together a lot so definitely keep your eyes peeled for that. Again, I dont wanna spoil to much, but if you know me, you know Im a huge fan of my pal Durow. Im going to be remixing one of my favorite songs of his. I think thats all I want to give away for now. Basically, 2019 is going to be vcry busy, but so much good music is coming from the hard work."
Q: Speaking of SupportArt, you are now in a leadership role. What does that change and step up mean to you?
A: "It means I got my responsibilities. I got to put my team on my back. Im ready to help push SA to that level. We are all so close. We can feel it. People can see it. On a more personal level, its a nice little thing for me to look at and see how far I've come. I remember first interacting with B-L1FE before 'Hello... My Name Is' came out. Amazing how we went from strangers to acquaintances to friends to brothers, and now we're almost partners in a way. The whole team is. We all just keep our heads down and work. No flexing, no beefing, no shade, just hustle. You think I would have gotten this far if I ran my mouth like everyone else?"
Q: You and WAVEON click so well, is there a title for the EP, and who else do you blend well with as an artist and as a producer?
A: "Currently, there is no title yet. We're just in the beginning phases so its just so its just creativity on creativity. Just thinking about what we want to achieve with the project. I work really well with a lot of people in my opinion. Lately, I've been working with Cody James, and he has been awesome. He knows what he wants, and I think his bars over my production is something else. He brings out my best beats, which in turn brings out his best energy. Other people I really fuck with right now are kevspeakstruth, who dropped his new album today 'Club 27' so go get that, B-L1FE, eNDIO, Durow, and most recently I starting working with a brand new artist on her debut project. Keep an eye out for DVN, especially next month."
Q: Was '15min' the breakthrough, or do you feel 'Run Away' is where as an artist you really begin this takeoff?
A: "I think '15min' was my production breakthrough. I dont care what anyone says that is nuts! 'Run Away' is an extension almost... like ok, here is a crazy beat that you werent expecting me to make, and then heres everything on my mind thats darker in the vocals. I wouldnt even say 'Run Away' is even close to being the final destination as far as my sound goes. Im still young as fuck. You're still going to hear me bar out at times. I'll probably make some weird beats (usually leased by B-L1FE) which you may not have expected to hear from me. I am just trying to branch out in any and every way. I want to see what I like and what Im good at. I want and need to see what I am capable of. 'Run Away' is just the start."
Q: A recent press release with Cody James' surprise April single hinted at you potentially being a vocal feature on a hook for his EP. What kind of magic do you think, away from production, you two can make?
A: "Humbled when I say this, but I honestly have a big hand in his EP. It was basically me throwing beat after beat at him, and he picked out what he liked. Then of course, I had to hop on something. Im giving this man pure heat so why not spice it up in a different way also. Whether he uses it is yet to be seen, but it would be awesome to also be a featured artist on a project I know he is putting literally everything into."
Q: Anything you would like to add about the single or in general?
A: "Yeah, lets change it up a little. So ya'll get a list of my top artists to check the fuck out! Also shouts to the homes at 10-2. Shoutout to the 612. Shoutout to the 425. Beto for President!"
